Listening & viewing to CNN this week, I was inundated with negative news, political scandals/infighting, and an attack(s) upon the Institution of Family.
Dealing with the Storms of Life
In previous weeks, I blogged about the 2012 Presidential election, Honoring Veterans, and Money management for the Military. One recent area of interest was the FRANKENSTORM of NY/NJ. Talking about storms...it goes without saying.
As I've watched the images and ravages of Hurricane Sandy on television, the faces of the affected residents struck me in a very profound way. One would expect utter despair...but no, I saw hope and optimism. Not one, not two, not three...but multiple citizens emphasized Resilience. Hardiness and toughness and grace.
Personally, I can't offer any sageness of words or magic blue pill bullets for overcoming adversity. Really, it's a question of how long can you or I hold on. One prescriptive recipe that has helped me to weather the storms of life, is the 23rd Psalm.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
